In The News

Dear Steve, Jenny, Anne, J, Craig and Tim (as well as the rest of the NAPHC Team),

The DinoMights Billy Lindsay Outdoor Hockey Rink opened for the 2018-19 season on December 14. We had a beautiful opening night with over 25 kids on the rink, plus a bonfire and grilling. As you’re well aware, the weather has turned warm over the past few days, softening the ice. However, thanks to your support warm weather closures will soon become a thing of the past! The Hennepin County Youth Sports grant program recently approved $300,000 in funding for the Billy Lindsay Rink to add refrigeration in 2019-2020!

We are so grateful for your donation and support through the DWB Memorial Foundation! It was an important building block to help us achieve this milestone in our outdoor hockey project. Funds from the NAPHC provided our initial match funds, enabling us to attract additional funding from the U.S. Bank Foundation and now the grant from Hennepin County. When refrigeration is installed:
We will extend our outdoor hockey season from an average of 4-6 weeks to 15+ weeks, nearly tripling the hours of operation and offering a similar increase in hours of employment for local teens.
The rink will generate an increase in usage from an average of 4,000 user hours each season to over 15,000 user hours.
We will be able to expand the size of the main ice sheet – creating a flexible asset that serves the low-income diverse youth in our program as well as the entire hockey community of Minneapolis.

We thank you for your support and invite you to join us at the grand opening celebration of the refrigerated rink in mid-November 2019. We will be in touch when a firm date is established.

Merry Christmas to you all, and see you on the pond!

-Karen and Scott
